So after what has seemed like an eternity, Formula One is back! I for one welcome its return and cannot wait to see what this season has in store for all of us.
But from a Mercedes perspective, what shape are we in going into this Australian Grand Prix weekend?
Well if you are judging things solely on the results of pre-season testing, then you would say that we are the favourites to win this weekend.
Everyone knows though that you cannot judge things purely based on testing and there is no guarantee of a smooth weekend at the first race (refer back to 2014 for an example).
Ferrari look to have closed the gap over the winter meaning and Williams do not look shabby at all.. so we’re going to have to be at our very best if we are going to take the win on Sunday!
The first race of the season is always a task of survival, The relaxed and steady nature of pre-season testing is no match for the fast and frenetic pace of a race weekend. Reliability always plays a big part in the opening weekend and hopefully the W07 is as infallible this weekend as it was over the whole of testing.
Success is not a given in any sport, it is always achieved by hard work and determination. Supporting this team from the beginning, I have gone through the highs and lows over the years, but the last three years have been an absolute dream.
The success that the team is going through now is all down to the hard work and determination of everyone at the factory at Brackley and at Mercedes HPP at Brixworth. Also to the people that travel across the world and make sure every race weekend that Lewis and Nico have two fully functioning cars to race with.
So as the sun sets in London as I write this, there are less than seven hours to go until the start of First practice in Melbourne. Everyone will be hoping for a smooth weekend without any technical difficulties.
The last two years the W05 and the W06 have conquered Australia, can the W07 make it three in a row?
After a truly stunning winter testing, all the signs point to that being a very strong possibility and I for one will be crossing my fingers that one of the boys will be taking the chequered flag on Sunday afternoon!
